The Brief

An international race. Irish mountains.

EcoTrail is an international trail running event, and since its first Irish edition in 2019, it has quickly established itself as one of the country’s flagship races — attracting record numbers of competitors from across the globe, racing distances from 10km to 80km.

From year one, Human Form Films has been on hand to document the event — capturing the action and delivering high-end content used to promote EcoTrail both at home and internationally.

The Idea

Evolve with the event.

As EcoTrail has grown, so has the way it shows up online.

What began as longer-form after-movie edits has evolved into sharp, social-first storytelling — short, immediate cuts, often filmed, edited, and delivered within hours of the race unfolding.

The goal has always been the same: reflect the scale and seriousness of the event, while keeping the energy raw and immediate.

The Making

Small crew. Big focus.

The real art of EcoTrail isn’t just in the filming — it’s in the logistics.

An 80km course across the Wicklow Mountains means coordinating locations, timings, access routes, and shifting weather — all while athletes move constantly and unpredictably.

Heavy setups simply don’t work here.

The production stays lean and mobile — built around people comfortable in the terrain, able to climb, reposition, and respond without slowing the race down.

When you can move with the event rather than chase it, the footage feels embedded — not staged.

Growth, year after year.

The films have supported international entries and expanded the event’s reach well beyond Ireland.

EcoTrail Wicklow is now Ireland’s largest trail running event — and the content has been part of that climb.
